How to Assemble a Reindeer Silhouette Greeting Card

Make whimsical reindeer silhouette greeting cards for your holiday crafts.

Designing holiday crafts is a year-round effort. Winter inspired greeting cards generally use motifs like reindeer to spark the holiday spirit. Create the reindeer silhouette with colored construction paper, card stock or textured paper. A reindeer photo acts as a guide while tracing the silhouette onto the craft paper. Cutting the silhouette into separate parts facilitates assembling the reindeer onto the greeting card. Designing a background places the reindeer in a winter scene. Glue dots, frequently used for adding dimension to scrapbooking pages, raises the silhouette and transforms the reindeer into a three dimensional greeting card.

Things You'll Need

• Reindeer silhouette photo
• Geographical magazines
• Light box
• Tracing paper
• Drafting pencils
• Paper scissors
• Colored cardstock
• Construction paper (optional)
• Craft glue
• Glue dots
• Colored markers
• Metallic pens (optional)

Instructions

1. Position a reindeer silhouette photo onto a light box, which usually has fluorescent light. If you do not have a photo, look through nature magazines for a clipping.

2. Place tracing paper over the photo. Trace around the highlighted reindeer figure with drafting pencils.

3. Cut each section of the silhouette separately with paper scissors. For example, cut out the legs, body, tail, head and antlers.

4. Trace each section separately onto different textures for each part of the silhouette. Although you can use the same paper like colored card stock or construction paper, incorporating different textures or felt creates an interesting silhouette and surface.

5. Glue each part separately to the greeting card surface with craft glue. If you are placing the silhouette into a specific scene such as snow-covered hills, place the legs in the crevice of the hills. Another option is to use glue dots, which raises the silhouette surface from the card. Continue to glue the remaining silhouette parts such as the body, tail, head and antlers.

6. Add the eye, nose and mouth with colored markers or metallic pens. Another option is to glue beads or buttons for the eye.
