How to Restart the TiVo DVR

TiVo is a digital video converter that records favorite television shows characterized by series, actors or smart suggestions. Both the HD and SD versions of TiVo DVRs can hold hundreds of hours of video programming. Occasionally, the TiVo DVR may need to be restarted due to a minor issue. Restart the device using the built-in restarting feature.

Instructions

1. Press the power button on both the television and the TiVo DVR machine. Both devices need to be powered on in order to restart the machine.

2. Locate the TiVo remote control that was provided with the DVR machine. Press the TiVo button located at the top of the remote to access TiVo Central. TiVo Central allows users to access all of TiVo's functionality, including setup and troubleshooting.

3. Highlight the option entitled "Messages & Setup" from TiVo Central using the arrow keys located directly under the TiVo button. Press "Select" (under the arrow keys) to open the setup utility. On HD TiVo devices, highlight the "Help" option and press "Select" to access troubleshooting options. Regular TiVo devices will already display them.

4. Locate and highlight the option entitled "Restart or Reset System." Press "Select" to advance the menu. In the following window, choose the "Restart the TiVo DVR" option.

5. Press three times the red "Thumbs Down" button located in the top-left portion of the remote. The TiVo device will automatically restart. Allow a few minutes for the TiVo DVR to complete the restart process.

Tips & Warnings

• If you cannot restart the TiVo DVR from the menu, remove the power cord from the back of the DVR. Wait 15 seconds and insert the power cord back into the device.
