How to Teach Children About Being Committed to God
The popular saying, "A family that prays together stays together," is attributed to Al Scalpone, and stresses the importance of involving every member of a family in the religious experience. When teaching children to have a strong commitment to God, it's important to expose your children to religious texts and to hold your behavior as an example of the behaviors you wish to teach.

1
Teach by example. Model the level of commitment you want your children to have by developing that same level of commitment in yourself. For example, create a schedule that permits you to attend weekly religious services.
-
2
Read age-appropriate Bible stories or religious texts to your children. Rather than read traditional children's stories at bedtime, read Bible or religious stories condensed for children, which you can find at a local book store.
-
-
3
Find examples of biblical or religious characters who demonstrated fortitude and a steadfast commitment to God during challenges and tests. Reference these characters when talking to your child in everyday conversation. Repetition will help your child develop a relationship with each character.
-
4
Underscore the importance of having a commitment to God. Explain the impact a commitment to God has on other areas of life. For example, explain that having a strong commitment to God may inspire honesty and create a sense of security.
-
5
Have your children define what it means to be committed to God. Allow your children's answers to drive the conversation. Encourage answers like "Be kind to others," "Believe in God even when times are difficult" and "Help others learn about God."
