How to Seek Jesus in Prayer

Seek Jesus for absolution.

For Christians, accepting Jesus Christ into your heart is the essential means for getting to heaven. Finding eternal life means acknowledging Christ as the Messiah -- sent by God -- and savior of all mankind. Seeking Jesus in prayer is simple -- although daily distractions and temptations pull people away from that simplicity. Once you call on Jesus, believers in Christ feel comforted and assured that no matter what life brings, God will provide and take care of all things in His time.

Close your eyes and bow your head. Admit that you are a sinner and are in need of redemption. Acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the son of God -- born of a virgin, crucified by man and resurrected by the Lord. Ask Jesus to forgive you and to come into your heart. Praying for redemption and seeking a relationship with Christ is the first -- and most important -- step to finding Jesus in prayer.

Pray at night before you go to bed and when you first wake up in the morning. Thank Jesus for all of his blessings throughout the day and/or ask for his blessings as your day begins. Ask Christ to keep you focused on achieving His will today and living in a healthy, positive and loving way so that others will see the Holy Spirit in you.

Memorize prayers from the Bible and communicate with Christ with the holy word. Pray in the morning, for example, Psalm 5, which begins: "I call upon you, O Lord. In the morning you hear me; in the morning I offer you my prayer, watching and waiting. I lift my heart to you, O Lord, to be strengthened for this day. Be with me in all I do, my God; guide me in all my ways."

Ask for specific needs when praying. Tell the Lord what is exactly on your heart and the details of your prayer request. Remember to acknowledge that God is always in control and ultimately you only want His will to be done. Ask Jesus for comfort, strength and confidence in all things. Get intimate with Jesus and tell Him your deepest secrets and darkest fears. Ask Him for provision and to ease your mind and heart. Stay intimate in your prayers with Jesus and know that He always loves you.
