Raid the candy cupboard to decorate your next cake. Add to the sweetness by using some colorful and tasty candy varieties to the top of your cake, pressing them gently into the sticky frosting for added effect. Candy corn -- a traditional Halloween candy -- makes an excellent decorating addition to the top and side of an autumn cake. Things You'll Need

  • 2-layer cake
  • Cake plate
  • Frosting (chocolate or white color)
  • Spatula
  • 3 lbs. candy corn
  • Cutting board
  • Paring knife

Instructions

      Place the bottom layer of the cake onto the cake plate.

      Spread frosting over the top edge of the bottom layer of the cake. Place the top layer of cake onto the bottom layer.

      Frost the top and sides of the cake with frosting, adding a thick enough layer of frosting to cover the entire cake evenly.

      Cut about 2 lbs. of candy corn into half length-wise pieces with the paring knife.

      Affix the halved candy corn pieces onto the side edges of the cake. Press the cut edges of the candy corn onto the frosting, covering the entire side edges of the cake with candy corn pieces. Space the candy corn pieces right next to each other and vary the placement of the candy corn so that the tops of the candy corn pieces point up, down and at various angles to cover the sides of the cake completely.

      Place whole candy corn pieces around the perimeter edge of the cake. Press the bottom edges of the candy corn pieces into the frosting around the top edge of the cake to make an attractive border.
