Access thousands of Kindle ebooks without a Kindle device.

Amazon's Kindle marketplace is one of the top ebook sellers, and quite often, publishers and writers alike will sell exclusively through them. However, you do not need to have a Kindle device in order to buy and read ebooks from Amazon. If you own a Xoom, Galaxy, Dell Streak or any other tablet with the Android operating system, you only need to download the Kindle for Android application. This is relatively easy to do and can be done in a couple of minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the Android Market application and open it. In most cases, it should be a preset icon already on the tablet's desktop. To open the app, simply touch the icon.

    • 2

Select the "apps" option, as opposed to "games."

    • 3

Select the "Books & Reference" choice towards the top of the list.

    • 4

Select the "Top Free" option. If you do not, your options will be both best selling apps and frequently downloaded ones. Kindle may or may not be at the top of the list.

    • 5

Touch the Kindle icon, agree to a license, if prompted, and download the app.

    • 6

Open the Kindle app on your Android tablet. Follow all the prompts and set up your Kindle account. You will need to designate a payment option, and the device needs to registered with Amazon. This allows Amazon to send your ebook purchases directly to your tablet computer.
