How to Unclog a Jenn-Air Dishwasher

Save

Jenn-Air dishwashers come in a number of models, with various features including sanitizing wash, large racks, quiet motors, specific cycles for certain items like china or pots and pans, automatic detergent dispensers, delayed start and single- or double-drawer configurations. Jenn-Air dishwashers are sold with limited warranties and can be expected to operate well with basic cleaning, care and maintenance. However, if a problem such as clogging occurs, some troubleshooting can help resolve the issue and return the dishwasher to normal function.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean cloth(s)
  • Water
  • Turn off and disconnect the Jenn-Air dishwasher from power.

  • Pull out the bottom rack and examine the bottom of the dishwasher tub for large items that may be causing a clog, such as large food debris or a fallen utensil. Remove and clean as necessary.

  • Find the filter assembly on the bottom of the dishwasher. Turn the upper filter, which looks like a round dial, ¼-turn counterclockwise and lift up to remove it. Grab the lower filter at the round opening and pull forward and up to remove it. Rinse both filters with cool water. Look inside the filter assembly in the dishwasher for items that may be causing an obstruction and remove them before installing the lower filter by placing it under the tabs on the assembly and pushing down. Once the lower filter is installed, rotate the upper filter in the opening until it locks into place.

  • Operate the garbage disposal at the kitchen sink, if one is installed, and make sure the knockout plug between the disposal and the dishwasher hose is removed.

  • Disconnect the drain hose from the rear of the dishwasher and clean out the hose as well as the inlet where the hose connects to the dishwasher. Reconnect the hose firmly and make sure the hose is not trapped or bent.

  • Contact Jenn-Air for additional assistance if these procedures fail to solve the issue by calling 800-688-1100.
