How to Decorate a Margarita Cake
The tart zing of lime and the bite of tequila are two of the trademark flavors of a margarita. You can treat an adult friend or relative to this tasty combination in the form of a birthday cake. Margarita cakes begin with a basic white cake, then are transformed with margarita mix and alcohol mixed in the batter. The alcohol burns off, but the flavor remains. Things You'll Need
- 2 layers margarita cake
- White frosting
- Butter knife
- Coarse sugar
- 2 limes
- Cutting board
- Sharp paring knife

Frost one cake layer with 1/2 cup of frosting spread in a smooth layer. Place the second layer of cake on top of the first.

Frost the outside of the cake with white frosting, covering the top and sides with a fluffy layer of icing.

Sprinkle coarse sugar crystals around the entire rim of the top of the cake. These large, clear crystals will look like the salt on the rim of a margarita glass.

Cut limes into 1/4-inch thick slices. Cut out 1/4 of each slice, just as if you were taking out slice of a pizza. You will be left with lime slices with large sections removed from them.

Balance eight to 10 lime slices around the edge of the cake. Place each slice so the cut out section is against the top and side of the cake. This will make the lime slices look like a lime garnish on a margarita glass.

Tips & Warnings
Use strawberries instead of limes to imitate the look of a strawberry margarita.
