How to Restart PowerPoint

PowerPoint is a part of Microsoft's Office suite of applications. It allows users to create a fully functional multimedia presentation from the ground up. Because PowerPoint presentations tend to use large amounts of system resources, occasionally you may find that restarting PowerPoint will improve the program's performance. This must be done in a very specific way to avoid losing your work.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Save" button in PowerPoint's "Ribbon" toolbar. This will save all the work you have recently completed in your project. If you have not saved this presentation previously, a dialog box will appear asking you to select a location on your hard drive to create a new file.

    • 2

Click the "X" button in the top, right-most corner of the PowerPoint window. Alternatively, you can click the large round "Office" button in the top-left corner of the PowerPoint window, and then choose "Exit PowerPoint" to close the program.

    • 3

Open PowerPoint to restart the program. Double-click the icon labeled "Microsoft PowerPoint" on your desktop (if applicable). If no such icon exists, click "Start" and "All Programs." Open the "Microsoft Office" folder and click the "Microsoft PowerPoint" icon to restart the program.
