How to Have a Verified Twitter Account

Twitter is a social networking site that allows users to post "tweets," or text messages that are 140 characters or less in length. Twitter users may invite and accept followers, or "Tweeps" (Twitter Peeps) as some users call them. To obtain a Twitter account and start accumulating Tweeps, complete the account information and verify your Twitter account. A verified Twitter account simply means that you supplied an email address in your account setup, and Twitter sent an email to this account to verify that it was a legitimate email account belonging to you. You click on the URL provided by Twitter to verify that you received the email at the email address you provided.

  • Open a Web browser and navigate to the Twitter: Create an Account page (See Resources).

  • Type your full name in the input box.

  • Create a user name and type it into the "Username" input box.

  • Type a password into the "Password" input box.

  • Type your email address into the corresponding input box.

  • Check or uncheck the "Let Others Find Me By Email Address" option, depending on your preference. Email addresses will not be publicly visible even if this option is selected.

  • Review the Terms of Service and then click the "Create My Account" button. An email will be sent to the email address you provided.

  • Check your email. Open the email from Twitter and click on the verification link. A new browser window opens and a notification window appears stating that the account is now verified and ready to use.
