Serving over three million customers in the United States alone, HSBC bank offers a suite of financial services that include banking, credit cards, loans and investments. A customer interested in opening a HSBC banking account, such as savings or checking, can easily complete the process online through the HSBC website.
Choosing an Account
HSBC offers four types of checking accounts and three savings accounts, each with different fees, interest rates and features. Each account also has different requirements a customer has to meet. The premier and advance accounts, for example, require a minimum balance of $100,000 and $10,000. They charge a monthly maintenance fee of $50 and $20, respectively, when the account falls below the minimum.
Submitting Necessary Information
To apply, click on the “apply online” button found on the HSBC website and fill in the appropriate information in the online form. You must be 18 years old and provide your name, date of birth, telephone number, address, email address, employment information, mother’s maiden name and current bank’s name, address and account number. Additionally, HSBC asks for a Social Security or tax ID number and driver’s license number to prove your identity. If opening a joint account, you will need the other person’s Social Security or tax ID number and date of birth.
Funding the Account
You can fund the account by providing a current bank account and routing number during the application process, or by mailing in a check. Once you submit the application, an HSBC representative makes contact to complete the process and open the account.
