How to Dry Candied Strawberries
Dried, candied strawberries can be used as decoration on cakes, cupcakes and many other sweet edible treats. They can even be eaten all by themselves when you want to indulge. After you have candied your strawberries, you can dry them using one of two simple methods. If you have a dehydrator handy, it will accomplish the job, but an oven will work just as well. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
Oven Dry
-
1
Preheat the oven to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
2
Spray a light coating of non-stick cooking spray on a baking sheet and place the candied strawberries on the baking sheet. Leave enough room between each strawberry so air can circulate around them.
-
-
3
Insert the strawberries into the oven. Prop the oven door open just a bit to let the humidity escape. It can take up to 20 hours to completely dry candied strawberries. Check them periodically to see if they have completed drying. They should be dry to the touch and not tacky.
Dehydrator
-
4
Place the candied strawberries on the dehydrator trays. Leave enough space in between each strawberry so air can circulate around them. Air circulation aids the drying process.
-
5
Stack the trays on the dehydrator and place the lid on top. Turn on the dehydrator. It can take up to 20 hours to completely dry the candied strawberries. Check after eight hours to see if they are no longer tacky to the touch.
-
6
Dehydrators with the heating element at the bottom should have their trays rotated every few hours. Move the bottom tray to the top. This promotes even drying.
