Host your domain with a new hosting provider

After hosting your domain for at least 60 days with your current hosting provider you have the option of transferring the domain to a new host. There are many reasons to transfer a domain. Many hosting providers offer low domain registration fees, but once you are ready to activate a hosting plan, you may choose to host your domain elsewhere. You may also seek the convenience of managing multiple domains from one hosting account. In either case, you will need to follow these steps to ensure the transfer is completed successfully.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to the current host control panel. Verify or update the "whois" information.

    • 2

Unlock the domain name panel and copy the Extensible Provisioning Protocol (EPP) authorization code for later use at your new host.

    • 3

Request to have your name servers changed to point to your new host.

    • 4

Create an account with a new host where you wish to transfer the domain.

    • 5

Select the option to register a new domain name to your shopping cart and complete the payment information.

    • 6

Go to your new host control panel. From the domain manger options, enter the EPP authorization code.

    • 7

Allow 12 to 48 hours for domain registry to complete; however, the process usually takes 5 to 7 days. Requesting to have the name servers point to your new host, unlocking the domain name panel and supplying the EPP code to your new host expedites the process. Otherwise, your new host would have to contact the old host to initiate this process which requires expressed permission.

Tips & Warnings
