How to Gmail Chat From a Cell Phone

You internet-ready cell phone can allow you to surf the Web and even download your Gmail messages, but as of time of publication, Gmail does not offer a Gmail chat application that you can use separately from your browser. Luckily, Gmail does offer Google Talk, which you can use with any Web-enabled cell phone. Aso long as you have a connection and a browser, you can chat with your Gmail contacts while traveling.

  • Open your Web-enabled cell phone's Internet browser.

  • Type "talk.google.com" into the address bar and press "Enter."

  • Sign into Google Talk using your Gmail sign-in name and password. If you don't have a sign-in name, visit gmail.com in order to register and gain access to Gmail and Google Talk.

  • Allow your contacts to load, as it may take a moment or two.

  • Tap or click a contact's name in order to open a new chat window. Click the "x" in the upper right-hand corner in order to end a chat. You must remain in the chat window in order to stay signed in. If you navigate away from the page, you'll be automatically signed out.
