How to Make Cloth Earrings
Earrings are a quick, simple and inexpensive way to accessorize an outfit, whether you are wearing a T-shirt and jeans or a dress. Accessory boutiques and department stores have racks of assorted earrings to choose from, but you can save money by making your own. Use scraps of fabric left over from the construction of a garment to make a matching set of earrings or purchase special fabric just for making earrings.
Things You'll Need
- Four 2-inch-square fabric scraps
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Two jump rings
- Needle nose pliers
- Two earring loops
Instructions
-
-
1
Stack all four scraps of fabric. Cut a 2-inch circle through all four layers.
-
2
Place two fabric circles together with the wrong sides of the fabric facing each other. Sew the two pieces of fabric together with a spiral seam that starts in the center of the stacked circles and goes all the way out to the edge of the fabric. Repeat with the other two fabric circles.

-
3
Snip a small hole in each fabric circle 1/8 of an inch from the edge.
-
4
Open two jump rings with needle nose pliers by sticking the nose of the pliers through the center of the rings and prying them open.
-
5
Thread a jump ring through each hole you snipped in the fabric circles. Thread the jump rings through the small loops on the earring loops.
-
6
Pinch the jump rings closed with the needle nose pliers to complete the fabric earrings.
