How to Decorate a Plate Rack
Decorating a paint rack turns a bland wall piece into a functional work of art. Whether you use paint or decoupage to decorate your plate rack, decide what plates will be displayed on the plate rack and take your color queues from those plates. Things You'll Need
- Plastic sheeting
- Paint
- Paint brush
- Latex glaze
- Gold metallic paint
- Rag
- Papers
- Decoupage medium

Lay a sheet of plastic down on the work surface to protect it from the paint.

Paint the plate rack with a paint brush. Apply an even coat of paint and let it dry.

Apply a metallic gold glaze to the paint rack with a small rag. Dab the glaze on the paint rack, twisting your hand so the pattern of the rag creates a random texture to the paint rack. Let the paint rack dry overnight before you use it.

Tear decorative papers into strips of random sizes and shapes.

Paint the plate rack with decoupage medium.

Lay the decorative paper pieces over the plate rack. Turn the papers so they're applied in random ways and going in all directions.

Paint another layer of decoupage medium over the entire plate rack, sealing the paper to the plate rack.
