How to Dock a Boat on Walled Lake, Michigan
The town of Walled Lake and the town of Novi, both located in Oakland County, Michigan, surround Walled Lake. Private homes with private docks cover most of the lake's shoreline. On the south shore in Novi, a public beach provides access to the lake for canoeists and kayakers. Unfortunately, no public boat ramp or docks exist on the lake. If you want to dock, you either need to know someone who has a dock or buy property and build a dock.
Instructions

-
1
Buy a lake front house with a minimum of 50 linear feet of water frontage. The city ordinance requires 50 linear feet of shoreline per dock. Many houses already have docks.
-
2
Submit your site plan to the city for approval. The city must approve all plans for new docks on the lake. Once the city approves your plan, you can build the dock.

-
3
Build the dock or slide a portable dock into the water, so that it sits at least 5 feet away from your property line. Because a portable dock comes out of the water during winter, the ice doesn't damage it.
-
4
Sail your boat to the dock and tie it off.
