Shopping for eyeglasses begins with frame choice. Frames are usually constructed from metal or plastic and are available in thousands of styles, colors, shapes and sizes. They are also categorized by their rims--full-rimmed, semi-rimless or rimless. The frame's fit is determined by its size. Frame size is determined by three measurements, which can be identified on the frame itself.

1. Visit your local optical store or optometrist's office, and try on frames. When you find the frame that fits you, locate its measurements.

2. Find the eye size and bridge size on the frame's interior. Measured in millimeters, they are always marked together, eye size followed by bridge size, separated by a dash or box. They are etched on the bridge's interior, along the interior edge of the nose pad or along the interior of the temple.

3. Find the temple size along the interior of the temple. This three-digit millimeter measurement is usually between 125 and 160.

4. Use these measurements to help you find eyeglasses that fit your size. Make a note of these measurements for future purchases, especially for online purchases.
