How to Crochet One Single & Two Doubles
Single and double crochet are two of the most basic crochet stitches. You will find single crochet, abbreviated SC, and double crochet, abbreviated DC, in most crochet patterns. You can make single or double crochet stitches into the loops of a starting chain or into the existing stitches of a crochet project. Alternating single crochet and double crochet stitches will give you an uneven edge, which can create a decorative trim around a finished project.

1
Insert your hook through the first loop in your chain or the first stitch of your last row.
-
2
Wrap the yarn over your hook from back to front, or in a counterclockwise direction.
-
-
3
Pull the yarn through the stitch or chain so you have two loops on your hook.
-
4
Wrap the yarn counterclockwise over your hook again and pull it through the two loops on your hook to create a single crochet.
-
5
Wrap the yarn around your hook counterclockwise again.
-
6
Insert the hook through the next stitch or back through the previous stitch, depending on the directions of the pattern you are making.
-
7
Wrap the yarn around your hook counterclockwise and pull the hook through the stitch. You will have three loops on your hook.
-
8
Wrap the hook counterclockwise again and pull this wrap through the first two of the three loops on your hook. You will have two loops left on your hook. Wrap the hook again and pull it through these two loops to create a double crochet stitch.
-
