Globally speaking, rice is the most popular grain in the world. A 1/2 cup of white rice has only 103 calories, while the same amount of brown rice has 108 calories. With no more than 1 g of fat per 1/2-cup serving, rice is a go-to food for the healthy eater. It's also a food that fills you quickly, curbing your appetite. Rice cookers are popular appliances that cook rice to perfection, and the Aroma Rice Cooker and Food Steamer not only cooks rice, it doubles as a food steamer.
Things You'll Need

Wash the inner cooker, lid and accessories in warm, soapy water before using them for the first time.
Dry the cooker, lid and accessories with a clean kitchen towel.
Measure the amount of rice desired in the unit's designated measuring cup. Remember that 1 full cup of uncooked rice yields 2 cups of cooked rice.
Rinse the rice in a colander until the water runs clear.
Pour the rinsed rice into the inner cooker and add water up to the appropriate water measurement line, depending on how much cooked rice is desired. For example, for 1 cup of cooked rice, fill to level 1; for 2 cups of cooked rice, fill to level 2, for 3 cups of cooked rice, fill to level 3.
Insert the inner cooker into the outer unit, secure the lid and plug in the power cord.
Press the "Cook Switch" button and the power light will go on, indicating the unit is heating.
Lift the lid and stir the rice with the provided paddle once the cooker switches automatically to the "Keep Warm" mode. Allow the rice to cook for 5 to 10 additional minutes and then serve.
Using the Steamer
Add the preferred amount of water and insert the steam tray into the inner cooker.
Place the meat or vegetables on top of the steam tray.
Insert the inner cooker into the outer unit and secure the lid. Plug in the unit, press the "Cook Switch" button and the power light will go on, indicating the unit is heating.
Steam the food for approximately 5 to 25 minutes, depending on the food and desired level of doneness.
Tips & Warnings
- Brown rice requires more water and a longer cooking time than white rice.
- If you prefer fluffier rice, soak the grains for 10 to 20 minutes before pouring them into the inner cooker.
- You may substitute vegetable, beef or chicken stock instead of water to create a rich rice dish.
- Be careful opening the lid as the escaped steam can burn your hands and face.
- Don't use a scouring pad or an abrasive cleaner on the outside or inside of the cooker.
- Don't immerse the cooking unit or plug into water.
