How to Melt Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Chocolate is a decadent, sweet treat that chocolate-lovers can't get enough of. Milk chocolate, dark chocolate or even white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate is commonly used for baking, particularly in chocolate chip cookies. Semi-sweet chocolate is dark chocolate that is blended with cocoa butter and sugar. It's not as sweet as milk chocolate, making it ideal for already sweet pastries. Things You'll Need
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Heat-proof glass bowl
- Pot
- Microwave-safe container
Instructions

Stove Top

Fill a pot halfway with water and place on the stove on medium heat. Bring the water to a simmer.

Select a glass bowl that will just fit inside the pot without touching the water in the pot.

Pour the chocolate chips into the bowl and stir gently as they begin to melt.

Remove from the heat as soon as all of the chocolate is fully melted and use immediately.To keep the chocolate soft and warm, place in a fondue pot over very low heat, stirring frequently to prevent any scorching.
Microwave Method

Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl.

Place the bowl in the microwave and set the microwave for 30 seconds on 50% power.

Stir the chocolate after 30 seconds and repeat again at 50 percent power. Repeat, stirring well in between each interval until the chocolate is melted. Stirring the chocolate in between is important because the chocolate may be melted but will retain its chocolate chip shape until you stir it.

Tips & Warnings
You can add 2 tbsp. of vegetable shortening to every 2 cups of chocolate chips before melting if you want a thinner chocolate that will also look a bit shinier.
