How to Access a Windows 2000 Terminal Server With a Vista Home OS

Microsoft Windows Server 2000 running Terminal Server allows users to access the server machine through Remote Desktop Connectivity (RDC). Using the Microsoft Windows Vista Home OS, a remote desktop connection between the Vista computer and the Windows 2000 server may be made. Microsoft provides the RDC application by default in the Microsoft Windows Vista installation, so no need to download or install additional software. With the Windows 2000 server's domain name or IP address, and the user credentials to log into the Windows 2000 server, making a remote connection to the Terminal Server is an easy task.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows Vista "Start" button and then click "All Programs."

    • 2

Click the "Accessories" folder to expand.

    • 3

Click the "Remote Desktop Connection" link to open the RDC application.

    • 4

Type the IP address or domain name into the "Server" input box.

    • 5

Type the user id and password for the Windows 2000 server account and click "OK." A remote connection is made between the Windows Vista computer and the Windows 2000 server. A window showing the Windows 2000 server desktop will appear on the Vista machine.
