Instructions

    • 1

Stop performing the action that caused the hip to jam in the first place. This may be vigorous walking, stretching exercises or even climbing stairs.

    • 2

Fill a disposable coffee cup with water and freeze it. The cup should be filled to the very top edge.

    • 3

Cut off a section of the cup from around the opening. This should make the top edge of the ice inside visible.

    • 4

Hold the cup upside down so the ice is facing down and place it straight onto your hip.

    • 5

Move the ice cup around your hip over the painful areas, applying light pressure. Do this for five minutes and stop. If you wish, repeat once your hip has warmed up again.

    • 6

Lie on the hip that isn’t jammed when you are going to sleep and lean forward slightly so you don’t have pressure on your hips. You can use a pillow between your legs and under your stomach to help support your body in a comfortable position.

Tips & Warnings

  • Performing hip strengthening exercises can help you prevent hip jamming in the future.

  • Call an ambulance if you are totally unable to move your hip, whether you have considerable pain or not.
