How to Get a Free Spotify Account

Save

Spotify is a music streaming service with both free and premium plans. The desktop software is available for Windows XP with Service Pack 3 or later and Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or later. An online web version, accessible through a web browser, is also available -- both without cost. Spotify supports usage of the free plan with ads. Spotify Premium removes the ads and adds a few extra features for $9.99 per month, but does come with a one-month free trial as well. Creating an account is free and necessary to use the service.

Create a Free Spotify Account

  • The quickest way to create your free Spotify account is to visit Spotify's website and click Get Free. From here, you're brought to the sign-up page. You can opt to sign up with an existing Facebook account, which pulls data from Facebook and uses it to complete required Spotify sign-up information, eliminating the need to fill out a tedious form. Otherwise, type in your desired username, password, plus email address and birthdate. Then click Sign Up. This automatically downloads the free version of Spotify to your computer and provides instructions for quick installation. (

Spotify Free and Premium Plans

  • Spotify's standard music streaming service is completely free with ads, while the Spotify Premium service costs $9.99 per month and comes with a one-month free trial. Spotify Premium promises higher-quality audio, offline music listening and storage within the app, unlimited access to the mobile apps, playlist creation, playlist sharing and the removal of ads. After the trial period is complete, Spotify automatically charges your credit card every month until you unsubscribe. To upgrade at any time from the free plan, visit the Spotify Premium website to enter your payment information.
