How to Delete IMAP Email Immediately in Thunderbird

When you use Mozilla Thunderbird to retrieve IMAP-based email, the email is usually stored on the IMAP email server. Even if you delete the email from the program, it still sits on the server. This means that as you use your email, your server gets more clogged with email. Instead, you must configure Thunderbird to delete the email from the server when you delete it from the program.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the icon for the IMAP email account in Thunderbird.

    • 2

Click "Tools" in the Thunderbird toolbar.

    • 3

Click "Account Settings" in the menu that appears, and then click "Server Settings."

    • 4

Click "Remove it immediately" in the "When I delete a message" field.

    • 5

      Click "OK" to save changes.
