How to Make Slashed Jeans
Roughed-up slashed jeans are trendy. They also can be expensive. Shoppers actually pay a premium to buy jeans that manufacturers have already destroyed. Instead of paying someone else to do the dirty work, do it yourself and get the same rocker look without spending too much money.

Mark the spots on your jeans where you want to create your slashes with a pencil. After you've marked the spots you want to cut, try your jeans on to make sure that the sections you've picked still look good once the jeans are on your body.

2
Slash your jeans. You can do this either using scissors or a box cutter. If you use scissors, fold jeans perpendicular to your marked line creating a space to make your first cut along the line you've prepared with your pencil. Cut on the lines until you have a sufficient slash. If you go the box cutter route, take a piece of cardboard and put it under the jean so you won't cut through to the other side of your pants.

Add some extra fray. Now that your jeans are cut, you'll want them to look a bit more frayed to really get the look. Throw them in the washer and dryer to achieve a more rugged look. The process of washing and drying will make the edges of the cuts rougher. The more you wash, the more frayed your edges will be.

Create the same look without washing. If you don't want to wash your denim, take a sponge and dip it in water. Rub the sponge vigorously over the cut areas to fray your denim. To get a frayed look more quickly, try using a Brillo pad. It's rough surface will fray jeans more effectively.
