How to Upgrade Windows 7 Premium to Windows 7 Professional

The Windows 7 operating system comes in several different varieties, each of which is targeted at a different type of user. Windows 7 Premium, also called Windows 7 Home Premium, is the most common version of the operating system and is ideal for the average home user. However, it is missing some important features included in Windows 7 Professional, such as the ability to easily connect to a company network or back up the computer over a network. Fortunately Windows 7 Home Premium includes the Windows Anytime Upgrade feature, which allows you to easily upgrade to Windows 7 Professional.

  • Click "Start," then "All Programs."

  • Scroll to "Windows Anytime Upgrade," and click it to launch the program.

  • Click "Go online to choose the edition of Windows 7 that's best for you."

  • Click the green "Buy" button under "Professional" at the top of the window.

  • Enter your name, address, phone number and email address, then click "Next."

  • Enter your credit card information, then click "Next."

  • Confirm your information on the next screen, then click "Purchase."

  • Sign into the email account for the address you supplied during the purchase of your upgrade, then open the email from Microsoft.

  • Select the upgrade key by highlighting it with your mouse, then press "Ctrl" + "C" to copy it.

  • Click "Start," then "All Programs."

  • Scroll to "Windows Anytime Upgrade" and click it.

  • Click "Enter an Upgrade Key."

  • Click inside the field below "Windows Anytime Upgrade Key," then press "Ctrl" + "V" to paste the key you copied earlier.

  • Click "Next," then follow the prompts to complete your upgrade.

Tips & Warnings

  • You do not need to download any software or install any software to complete this upgrade. Your Windows 7 Professional upgrade key simply unlocks the new features in your Windows 7 Home Premium installation.
