Hairstyles from the 1950s are timeless ones. Classic styles include the poodle cut, the beehive, pin curls and the French pleat. Another prominent hairstyle from this era was the ponytail, which has never faded away. The ponytail is a simple hairdo still seen today on women of all ages. It can be as simple or elegant as wanted and can be worn on most any occasion. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Hairspray
  • Elastic ponytail holder
  • Bobby pin
  • Scarf or ribbon

Instructions

  1. Simple Ponytail

    • 1

      Comb hair back off the face. Pull all the hair up to center of the head, making sure all sides are smooth.

      Wrap elastic ponytail holder around the hair and pull tight.

    • 3

      Tie a chiffon scarf or ribbon around the ponytail. Let scarf or ribbon ends hang down on each side of ponytail.

    Pompadour Ponytail

    • 4

      Separate a section of hair from the front of the head around the forehead. Use comb to tease the back section. Spray with hairspray to hold. Tease as many sections of hair desired to create a high or low pompadour.

      Comb hair carefully back into ponytail, just smoothing the top of the hair over the teased sections. Wrap elastic ponytail holder around ponytail, but do not pull tight.

      Push the ponytail against the head and up, just a little bit, until the pompadour sections poof up. Hold ponytail in place with a bobby pin. Push up teased sections of hair and hold with bobby pin if needed for desired height. Use more hairspray if needed.

      Tie a chiffon scarf or ribbon around the ponytail.
