If you are looking for a healthy yet flavorful meal, steamed fish with snow peas is a delicious option. The flavors of the dish are Asian in nature, but can be altered according to your personal taste as well as items you have on hand. The fish is steamed in a steamer pan or bamboo steamer and can be eaten with brown rice or on its own. You can use your favorite type of fish, but the flavors work particularly well with firm-bodied white fish such as halibut, tilapia or skate. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Steamer pan or bamboo steamer
  • Parchment paper
  • 4 fish filets (size varies)
  • Snow peas (approximately 1/2 c. per serving)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp. fresh ginger (minced)
  • Dash chili sauce
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • Juice from one lime
  • 1 tsp. soy sauce
  • Tongs or oven mitt

      Mix together one minced clove of garlic, one minced tsp. of ginger, a dash of hot chili sauce, one tsp. of sesame oil, one tsp. of soy sauce, the juice of one lime and one tsp. of rice wine vinegar. This creates the sauce for the recipe.

      Boil water in your steamer or pot used with the bamboo steaming tray. Place fish filets in steamer for eight minutes.

      Remove filets and place on parchment paper. Cover with the sauce and top with 1/2 cup snow peas per serving. Wrap parchment paper around fish to create a packet. Each filet should have its own packet.

      Place parchment packets back into the steamer and steam for four to five more minutes. Allow the pan to cool slightly and remove packets from steamer using tongs or an oven mitt. Open packages and serve on brown or white rice.
