Twitter now boasts a staggering 200 million registered users across many different continents. According to the Twitter blog, users sent 50 million tweets per day last year and that amount is steadily increasing. Many people who make use of this micro-blogging tool, particularly businesses, consider it important to be able to find clients or particular topical tweets in their surrounding area.
Visit Search.twitter.com. This simple tool will allow you to find people and topics based on their exact location.
Click the "Advanced Search" link. You can now define precisely what you are looking for in your area. For example, add "restaurant" into the "All of these words" text box and "Boston", then "1 Mile" in the "Places" section. This will provide you with details about anyone tweeting about "restaurants" within a one-mile distance from Boston.
Visit Nearbytweets.com. This is a similar tool but provides a visual representation of tweets as they arrive.
Change the destination by hovering your cursor next to "Tweets Nearby" and press "Change". You can do the same thing with the content of the tweets by altering "Anything" to something more specific. This will enable you to see what people are tweeting about in a particular zip code.
