How to Transfer Outlook 2007 PST to 2010

The decision to switch or upgrade email clients is a weighty one. Not only do you have to consider which features of a new program are worth the upgrade, but also whether you can transfer existing email accounts into the new client. Microsoft's Outlook series of email programs saves account and email information in the form of a PST (or .pst) file, a personal folder file. PST files can be exported from one version of Outlook and imported into another. If you use Outlook 2007 and want to transfer files to Outlook 2010, you can do so by exporting your PST file.

Export Outlook 2007 PST File

  • Click on the "File" option in the main screen of Outlook 2007.

  • Click "Import and Export."

  • Click "Export to File."

  • Click "Next."

  • Click "Personal Folder File (.pst)." Click "Next."

  • Click on the account folder that you want to transfer to Outlook 2010. Click "Next."

  • Click "Browse." Choose where you want to save the file on your computer.

  • Type a name for the saved .pst file and click "OK." Click "Finish" to complete the exporting process.

Import Outlook 2007 File Into Outlook 2010

  • Open Outlook 2010.

  • Click "File." Click "Open."

  • Click "Import."

  • Click on "Import from another program or file." Click "Next." Click "Outlook Data File (.pst)." Click "Next."

  • Click "Browse." Click on the saved Outlook 2007 .pst file from the previous section in its location on your hard drive. Click "Next." Click "Finish" to transfer your Outlook 2007 .pst file to Outlook 2010.
