Fake earrings allow you to add a stylish fashion accessory without the hassle or pain involved in having your ears pierced. You can make a pair of clip-on earrings in less than a half an hour, or make a dozen or so pairs to match every outfit you own. You can also make a pair of fake, clip-on earrings for a little girl who does not want to have her ears pierced, but still wants to look all grown-up during dress-up time.
Things You'll Need
- Thin-gauge jewelry wire
- Long-nose pliers
- Large crystal beads
- Small crystal beads
- Crimp ends
- Lever-back clip-on earrings with open bottom ring
- Superglue (optional)
- Imitation gemstones (optional)
Cut four pieces of thin jewelry wire. Make two of the wire pieces 3 inches long and two of the wire pieces 2 inches long.
Use the pliers to bend over approximately 1/8 inch of the wire at one end of each piece of wire. This will stop the beads from falling off the wires.
Thread a large crystal bead onto each wire and push the beads down to the bent ends. Use the pliers to push the bent wires firmly against the bead.
Add smaller crystal beads onto the remaining length of each piece of wire, stopping approximately 3/4 inch from the ends of the wires.
Attach a crimp end to the end of each piece of wire. To do this, insert the wire into the hole in the bottom of the crimp end. Use a pair of tweezers to grasp the threaded end of the wire and insert it back through the hole in the crimp end. Pinch the crimp end closed with a pair of long-nose pliers. Do the same to attach a crimp end to the other pieces of wire.
Thread the crimp end of one of the 3-inch and one of the 2-inch wire pieces into the open bottom ring of one clip-on earring. Pinch the ring closed with pliers. Do the same with the remaining two pieces of wire and the other clip-on earring.
Tips & Warnings
- If the clip-on earrings have a flat front, apply a dab of superglue or another strong adhesive to the flat front of the clip-on earrings. Press a gemstone with a flat back firmly against the glue on the earrings. Hold firmly in place for at least 30 seconds.
