Instructions

    • 1

Obtain bottles of various brands of grapefruit wine.

    • 2

Pour a small amount of grapefruit wine into an empty wine glass. Hold the glass up to the light and see if you like its appearance.

    • 3

Swirl the wine glass for 10 to 20 seconds. This lets oxygen mix with the wine and helps to release vapors so you can smell it better.

    • 4

Tilt the glass to your nose and inhale the scent of the grapefruit wine. Your sense of smell helps to determine how something tastes.

    • 5

Sip the grapefruit wine. Write down how it tastes on a notepad so you can keep track of each wine you taste.

    • 6

Pour water into a clean wine glass and drink a little to clear your palate before trying the next bottle of grapefruit wine.

    • 7

Repeat the process of pouring grapefruit wine into a glass, examining its appearance, swirling, smelling and tasting it. After tasting each wine and recording your opinion on the notepad, compare the results to help you to determine which grapefruit wine you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some people spit out a mouthful of wine instead of swallowing it when they are tasting wines, especially when there are a number of bottles to sample. Keep a bucket nearby if you decide to do this.
