How to Draw Cute Bows
Cute bows are easy to draw if you begin with the basic shapes and add the details later; in fact, drawing anything well rests on this premise. The bow in these instructions is drawn first in pencil using circles, triangles and arched lines--details and ink are added at the end. Once proficient at drawing cute bows use them to adorn drawings of little girls, baby animals or storybook princesses. Cut out the bow for scrapbook projects or handmade greeting cards.

1
Begin with the basic shape of the bow's center knot. Using the pencil, draw a circle about 1-inch wide in the center of the paper.
-
2
Draw the basic shape of the bow sides. Draw a sideways triangle to the left of the circle with the point of the triangle touching the circle's side. Draw another triangle in reverse on the right side.

3
Draw lines for the hanging ribbon ends. Starting below the left triangle where it meets the circle, draw a diagonal line and moving toward the bottom left corner of the page. End the line just below the bottom of the triangle on the left. Repeat on the right side.

4
Add detail to the knot to make it look as though it is fabric. Draw a square lightly around the circle with each side of the square in contact the circle. Add a smooth arch curving down into the circle from the top left corner of the square to the top right corner of the square. Draw another arch curving up into the circle from the bottom left corner of the square to the bottom right corner. Draw a wide "C" down the middle of the square.

5
Add detail to the bow sides to make them look as though they are soft. Draw a large backwards "3" starting from the outer top corner of the triangle to the left and ending at the bottom corner. Draw a large normal "3" in the same way on the outside of the right triangle. Draw a curved line from the top and bottom edges of the "3" and backwards "3" to the circle knot at the center. Draw two short curved lines starting from the knot and extending halfway to the outside of the bow on the left side. Repeat on the right side.
-
6
Add to detail to the hanging ribbons. Draw a small upside-down "V" coming from the bottom end of the ribbon line on the left side and right side. This creates the V-shape cut usually found at the end of ribbons. Draw two curved lines from the outer edges of the left "V" to the bottom of the bow knot. Repeat on the right side.
-
7
With marker or pen, trace along all the curved edges that you added to the initial circle and triangle. Erase the pencil of the circle and triangle, and color in the cute bow drawing with the colored pencils. Do not trace over the basic shape lines. Allow the ink to dry. Add more detail with the marker if you wish.

Tips & Warnings
Study bows to understand how fabric wrinkles and holds shape.
As a beginner, draw bows big instead of small.
Cute bows are soft, full and round --- draw the ribbons thick to make them more adorable.
Place several pieces of clean paper under your drawing hand to prevent smudging the drawing, and to prevent scratching or staining the table surface below.
Paper can wrinkle or tear when erasing.
