How to Develop Personal Goals & Objectives for a Christian Leader
A Christian leader has great responsibility to the church. One who is not disciplined in mind and spirit will never be as effective as he should. Setting goals and objectives that give direction and purpose to a ministry is an important step in creating a sense of confidence and assurance that a leader can handle the challenge. But goals and objectives are never created in isolation. They are a part of an ongoing conversation and relationship with God.

1
Be a person of great faith and sensitive to the direction of the Holy Spirit.
-
2
Spend extensive time studying the Bible, praying and meditating to develop a sense and knowledge of what God requires of you.
-
-
3
Identify the gifts that you have been given for service, which might include evangelism, speaking, hospitality, service and giving. Be willing to try various ministries to see which ones fit you the best.
-
4
Keep a personal journal to understand where you have been and your plans for going forward.
-
5
Write a list of achievable goals and objectives that will enable you to minister more effectively as a leader. Base the goals and objectives on the weaknesses you need to improve, the strengths you want to maximize or the direction you see your life going. For instance, an intangible goal might be to develop a better sense of patience; a tangible goal might be to graduate from Dallas Theological Seminary with a degree in biblical studies.
-
6
Strengthen a relationship with a wise elder in ministry, such as the relationship Timothy had with the Apostle Paul. Be responsible in reporting to the mentor your progress in achieving your goals, the problems standing in your way and what the Lord seems to be saying to you concerning your growth.
-
7
Become a follower who gives time and effort to help others achieve their goals in ministry.
