How to Set a PowerPoint for an Amount of Time

How to Set a PowerPoint for an Amount of Time thumbnail
PowerPoints presentations can be timed to run from start to finish.

PowerPoint 2010 presentations do not have to be accompanied by a speaker; commands enable the slide show to run for a set period of time or to manually transition, which is the action of advancing from slide to slide. This is convenient for a trade show or educational setting, or when a stand-alone presentation is required, such as at a kiosk.

Instructions

  1. Slide Transitions

    • 1

Click on a slide. Make sure you are working in "Slide" view. Click on the "Transitions" tab in the ribbon.

    • 2

Click the transition you want. Click on the "More" button of the "Transition to This Slide" group. Click on the transition you want from the pull-down menu.

    • 3

Select the Transitions tab. Click on "Timing" group, then type in the speed in the "Duration" box to advance the slide after a specified time.

    • 4

Set the timing for other slides in this manner.

    Set Up Slide Show

    • 5

Open the PowerPoint file. Select "File," then "Slide show." Click on "Set up slide show."

    • 6

Select "Show Type." Choose the appropriate option for your presentation from "Presented by a speaker," "Browsed by an individual" or "Browsed at a kiosk."

    • 7

Click on "Show Slides" button, then determine whether you want to show all slides, a set range or a customized show.

    • 8

Select the "Advance Show" options. Choose "Use timings if present." This will advance this show using your pre-determined, recorded slide transitions.

    • 9

Click on "Loop continuously until 'ESC'" to set the presentation to loop until you hit the 'ESC' key.
