Most mouth injuries are caused by accidentally biting yourself while chewing. Usually, only minor cuts are incurred from biting yourself, but even in those cases, the results can be very painful. Healing usually occurs within a few days, however, there are steps you can take to treat the cut, minimize the chance of infection, reduce discomfort and help your body to heal itself.

  • Philips Milk of Magnesia
  • Hydrogen Peroxide

Instructions

      Use a Q-Tip and apply hydrogen peroxide with water to the cut.

      Three times a day apply Phillips Milk of Magnesia to the affected area.

      Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce pain.

      Eat soft foods while your mouth is healing. Foods that require a lot of chewing may aggravate the cut.

      Rinse your mouth out with warm water after meals.

  • Call your doctor immediately if you have excessive bleeding or if your wound is getting worse, as this may be a sign of infection.
