Basil tea is good anytime of day.

Basil herbal tea or tisane, as it is more properly called, can be a delightful change from standard tea. Basil comes in many varieties, including cinnamon basil which tastes surprisingly like cinnamon, lemon basil which has a lovely citrus flavor and spicy Thai basil, which may be a little too hot for some people. Basil is high in antioxidants and naturally caffeine-free. Many recipes call for basil to be added to tea leaves to flavor the tea. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tsp. loose black tea (optional)
  • 2 cups water
  • Small pot
  • Stove
  • Sugar and milk (optional)

Instructions

      Add water, basil leaves and black tea leaves (if desired) to pot.

      Bring water to a boil.

    • 3

      Turn the temperature to simmer and allow to steep three minutes.

      Add milk and sugar, if desired.

    • 5

      Pour into tea cups and enjoy.
