Two parts cornstarch and one part water is all that is required to create a slime solution.

Children can create a slime solution with two basic kitchen ingredients---cornstarch and water. This slime is non-toxic, although certainly not good to eat. Cornstarch slime makes a wonderful science experiment. When poured, the liquid will flow freely. However, the more force is exerted on it, the firmer it will be. Some experimenters have even walked on the surface of this substance made in a swimming pool!

Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Bowl or sealable bag

Instructions

    • 1

Pour cornstarch into a bowl or sealable bag.

    • 2

Add water slowly while mixing the ingredients together by hand.

    • 3

Touch the slime. Although it looks like a liquid, the slime gets firmer as it is manipulated.

    • 4

Store slime in a covered container in the refrigerator. The cornstarch will begin to settle and will need to be mixed again before use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add glitter for color.

  • Do not pour the slime down the drain. It can get caught in the drain. Instead, dump it in the trash or mix it in dirt.
