Flyers are printed marketing pieces that help communicate important information about your product or service. Food companies, in particular, use flyers to update customers about a new food product, communicate features and benefits of a particular food, and tell customers where they can buy the food. When creating a flyer for a food product, there are several steps you should follow to increase your chances of accomplishing your business goals and objectives.
Write an outline to organize your thoughts, starting with your goals and objectives. For example, one of your goals may be to use your flyer to increase ice cream sales 10 percent in the next three months. Or, you may want to draw 100 new customers to your pizza website in June. Whatever your goals are, write them so they are specific and measurable. Once you set your goals, write a basic outline of the content you want to include in your flyer.
Write a headline for the flyer. A flyer is a type of marketing and promotion piece and the headline is the most important part. Don't waste your headline simply stating the name of your company. According to advertising legend David Ogilvy, on average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. Ogilvy stated, "When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar." For a food promotion flyer, state the biggest benefit of your food product in the headline. For example, for a health supplement, your headline might be, "How to Lose 10 Pounds This Month Eating More Food."
Write the body copy, making sure to include important features and benefits about your food. For example, for a health food, include nutrition facts, USDA food guidelines and how your food pertains to them, and health benefits of your food. Make the body copy easy to read by including short paragraphs and bulleted lists.
Write the call to action. This is another important component of a flyer. The "call to action" means the next step you want the reader to take. For example, for a food promotion flyer, you may ask customers to "come into our pizza shop this Saturday for a free slice" or "go to our website to learn more about how XYZ health shakes can help you lose weight." Make it easy for the reader to take the next step. Clearly communicate your contact information, mailing address, phone number and email address.
