The Garmin Forerunner, a training tool designed for runners, calculates calories burned, tracks your heart rate and helps you create custom exercise plans. The Forerunner displays the date and time on the main screen for your convenience. Once you select your time zone and daylight saving time settings, the Forerunner automatically receives date and time information from Garmin's satellites.

Step 1

Press the "Power" button to turn the device on while standing outside. Wait a moment while the Forerunner acquires a satellite signal.

Step 2

Select "Settings," "General" and "Time" from the main menu.

Step 3

Select the "Time-Format" drop-down menu, then set the time to display in 12-hour or 24-hour format.

Step 4

Choose "Time Zone" and choose your time zone from the drop-down menu.

Step 5

Select "Auto" under the Daylight Saving Time menu if you want the Forerunner to automatically detect daylight saving time settings.

Step 6

Exit to the main menu to verify that the date and time are correct.
