The Smart Balance Buttery Spread product is a spreadable butter product that looks, tastes and behaves like real butter. Cook with Smart Balance Spread in the same way you would cook with real butter.

  • Read your recipe to determine how much butter the recipe requires.

  • Measure the same amount of Smart Balance Spread. For example, if a recipe requires 1 tablespoon of butter to saute vegetables, measure the same amount of Smart Balance Spread and place it into the skillet.

  • Heat the Smart Balance Spread to melt it if you are sauteing vegetables. Turn the burner onto medium-high and stir the spread gently as it melts.

  • Add the vegetables and cook them lightly in the melted spread.

  • Bake with Smart Balance Spread also. For example, if a cookie recipe calls for 1 cup of butter, use 1 cup of Smart Balance Spread instead. Place the measured spread into a mixing bowl, add the sugar, and cream the ingredients the same way you would cream butter and sugar.
  • The Smart Balance company promises that you can use their Buttery Spreads and their Butter Sticks in a straight substitution for both butter and margarine in baking and cooking.
  • Do not cook and bake with the "light" Smart Balance Spreads because these products contain reduced fat levels.
