How to Rip a DVD-R
A DVD-R starts out as a blank DVD purchased from the computer store. You can burn files onto it, either as a data disc so that the DVD-R is only usable for transferring files to other computers, or as a DVD movie that can play in external DVD players hooked up to TVs. You can rip files from a DVD-R using built-in controls in Windows.

Highlight the files you want from the DVD by single-clicking them. Click and drag them to your computer's desktop to rip them. If this is a DVD movie, then open the TS_Video folder, and copy only the VOB file, since this is the video file and the only one you'll need.

Keep the files on your desktop, or select a folder to store them in. To move them into the folder, highlight the files by single-clicking them. Right-click with your mouse and select "cut." Navigate to the folder, and paste them into the folder by right-clicking with your mouse and selecting "paste."
