Gmail video chat allows Gmail account holders to communicate with other Gmail users via video. Users with video can use this feature to have face-to-face conversations without leaving home; all you need is a webcam, microphone and speakers. It's important to make sure your speaker and microphone settings are correct, if you're having problems with sound on Gmail video chat you will need to check this in the Gmail window.

      Check your speakers to make sure they are turned on and the volume isn't too low. If you are using external speakers that you have plugged into your computer, check the connections to make sure they are plugged in properly.

      Select "Settings" at the top of your Gmail window and select the "Chat" tab. Check the devices listed under "Camera," "Microphone" and "Speakers" are correct using the drop-down menu. These selections should match the internal or external hardware you are using for video chat.

      Click on the "Settings" tab in your Gmail account window. Select "Voice and Video Chat" and then "Verify Settings." Here, you can check your microphone, webcam and speakers are working.

      Click on "Start," "Settings," "Control Panel," then "Sound and Audio Devices" in the Windows taskbar if your microphone doesn't appear to be working. Then, select "Volume," find the "Device Volume" tab and click on "Advanced." Find the "Microphone" section and check the microphone is enabled and that the volume is turned up high enough for other people to hear it.
