You can make your Jeep look World War II-vintage with stencils.

If you're a Jeep enthusiast who is restoring a 1940s Jeep vehicle, you've probably determined that the process requires data plates and stenciled letters. The letters can complete the restoration with a look of authenticity. Online research can help you figure out the letters and placement on the vehicle, and a small can of spray paint will help you finish the job.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to dataplates4u.com, click on "stencils" from the top menu navigation and look for your specific factory or field Jeep model. Search Willys MA, Ford GP, Bantam BRC, U.S. Army, and British Army.

    • 2

Browse through the selection of field-style stencils, comparing your Jeep to the photos online until you find the star and division markings you need to complete your restoration of a field Jeep used by the U.S., British or Canadian armies.

    • 3

Order the stencils. Locate the spots on your Jeep that require letters, numbers or stars and tape the stencil to the Jeep with masking tape. Tape newspaper around the stencil to prevent paint from getting on other parts of the Jeep.

    • 4

Spray white or blue auto paint over the stencils and allow it to dry. After three hours, carefully remove the newspaper and stencils and examine your work. Complete any broken lines with a small paint brush.
