How to Find a Cornsnake

Corn Snakes are generally brownish-yellow in color, with red blotches running down their backs.

If you are ever in the damper regions of the southeast United States, you may see a slender Corn Snake slithering through an abandoned building, barn or backyard. The presence of human beings does not threaten the Corn Snake, which means you can find this 24 to 72 inch snake in rural and suburban areas. If you are trying to find a Corn Snake, knowing its habits and behaviors can aid your search.

Instructions

1. Look for Corn Snakes in the regions in which they are most abundant. You can find Corn Snakes in the states along the Atlantic coast, from the southern parts of New Jersey through Florida, as well as in parts of Kentucky and Louisiana. The most abundant area to find these snakes are Florida and areas around the southeastern United States.

2. Observe common hiding places of Corn Snakes. Corn Snakes received their name from hiding in corn barns and old buildings in search of food and a place to dwell. This reptile species does not shy away from humans and lives in rural and suburban areas.

3. Study the Corn Snake's habits. Corn Snakes are natural climbers, and you can often find them in trees. You can also often find them hiding underneath outdoor obstructions during the day. In the summer months between May and August, Corn Snakes become nocturnal, and they are easiest to find at night.

4. Look for Corn Snake eggs near warm, damp areas, such as rotten logs and swampy grasslands. Corn Snakes lay oval eggs in large quantities during the springtime.
