How to Wash Jute Rugs
Jute rugs are natural fiber rugs that are non-static and do not cause off-gassing like some commercial rugs. Jute rugs are made from a vegetable fiber and have a feeling similar to that of cotton. Like most natural fiber rugs, you cannot wash a jute rug in the washing machine or with any other method that involves saturation. Washing the rug with damp mopping is the best way to clean it without causing permanent damage to the fibers. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Vacuum the jute rug with a vacuum that has a beater brush. Vacuum the rug down its length, then across its width, in order to get all the dirt from between the natural fibers. Vacuuming before washing will ensure the dirt does not become matted during washing.
-
2
Dampen a white cloth with club soda and blot up any existing stains. Do not saturate the fibers with the club soda.

3
Wet a clean mop head with clean, cool water. Wring out the mop head to remove excess water.
-
4
Pull the damp mop head across the rug surface, following the direction of the fibers. Do not saturate the rug with water directly. Allow the rug to air dry.
