There are also several methods to help prevent split ends from returning -- so you never have to worry about this pesky hair problem.

1. Get a haircut. A hair stylist can look carefully at your hair and remove all ends that are split. Be aware that using this tactic to get rid of your split ends might mean parting with more hair than you'd like, since there is always some uncertainty with the result when someone else cuts your hair.

2. Hold a small bunch of your hair between your fingers to cut out your own split ends. Move your fingers all the way to the end of the bunch, and use your other hand to twist the hairs. The split ends will be easier to see this way.

3. Use sharp scissors to cut out the split ends you can now see, while still holding onto the bunch of hair.

4. Add a leave-in conditioner to your shower routine to help protect your hair from future split ends. Over time, the ends of your hair dry out, which causes them to split, and a leave-in conditioner will make drying out less of an issue.
