How to Make a Pencil Grip

A good pencil grip will encourage good hand posture while writing. A grip can alleviate joint pain and make writing more comfortable for those who write with a tight grasp. Store-bought pencil grips are easy to lose but luckily they are even easier to make. All you need is a rubber band to get started. Use vibrantly colored rubber bands for a unique grip.

Things You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Rubber band
  • Cut the rubber band open.

  • Tightly wrap the rubber band around the pencil in a spiral pattern.

  • Overlap the rubber band's edges, tucking the loose ends under to secure.

  • Glue the ends if they are not adequately secured.

  • Use as many rubber bands as you need.

Tips & Warnings

  • Layer rubber bands for added cushioning on finger joints.
