How to Entertain Yourself on Bed Rest
A person can be put on bed rest for multiple reasons, including before or after surgery, pregnancy, or recovery from an injury While on bed rest, it is important to follow the doctor's instructions for resting. This means finding creative ways to keep yourself entertained during this down time. Remember to clarify with your doctor in what ways you will be confined to bed rest, since some instances of bed rest do not mean you are confined to your bed 24 hours a day.

Watch a season of your favorite television show or a show you have been meaning to watch.

Call family and friends. Ask them to visit and even create a schedule of visitors to help keep you entertained.

Work from home. Ask your employer if there is work you can do from home. Set up a laptop computer and supplies you will need by your bed so that you can work, or ask a family member to assist you.

Start a new craft. Create scrapbooks with old photographs from your bed. Start a knitting or sewing project that does not require heavy lifting and can be done while sitting down.

Start a journal or blog. Write daily journal entries or blogs about your condition, and keep track of creative ways that you have entertained yourself during this time.

Start reading. Ask family and friends to bring books, magazines and newspapers so you can research your health condition or catch up on classics.

Prepare your bed rest area with the essentials so that you do not have to get up. Stock up on items such as water bottles and snacks. Set a telephone within reach and have pens, paper, brush, books, magazines, remote controls, laptop and beauty products within reach.

Catch up on paperwork. Organize files, fill out insurance forms and create data files for things that have been piling up. Write thank you cards to any friends or family members that have helped you through the bed rest process.
